The RePlace project strives to conduct creative participatory fieldwork

The RePlace project strives to conduct creative participatory fieldwork in selected left-behind areas (LBAs) in Europe through Village Labs and the curation of visual content, among others. Consortium members already have developed methodological reflexions on the potential of creative and participatory methods. For instance, IGOT-based member Amandine Desille has been working for the last years on visual and sensorial methodologies in the field of international migrations. In this piece recently published in Visual Studies, Desille and her colleague Karolina Nikielska-Sekula show the extent to which embodied, sensorial knowledge gained by both the researcher and research participants can contribute to research findings. To illustrate the potential of invoking the senses in migration-related research, she just presented her work on Ukrainians in Portugal at the “Encontro Luso-Brasileiro de Geografias Emocionais” held the last week of August 2023 at IGOT, Lisbon.
