On September 27, 2024, the The Nature House of the University of Latvia (LU) in Riga buzzed with excitement as it hosted the European Researchers’ Night, an event that brought together science enthusiasts. Geography enthusiasts, in particular, were treated to a unique experience with the chance to meet notable geographers such as Elina Apsite-Berina, Maris Berzins, and Zaiga Krisjane.
One of the highlights of the evening was a fascinating presentation on the Horizon Europe project Re-Place, which delved into the pressing challenges faced by ‘left-behind’ places. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about innovative approaches to revitalizing these regions and discuss the implications for Latvia.
At the Geography Department’s interactive station, visitors engaged with the diverse world of geography through a variety of fun and educational activities.
The most popular among them was the Latvia geography quiz, where participants tested their geographical knowledge of Latvia. Another crowd favorite was a map search activity, which invited visitors to discover intriguing locations of Latvia, leading to many delightful surprises.
This event was an excellent opportunity for both students and adults to discover geography from a new and exciting perspective.
